Some 22 years ago, my father, a visionary by nature, decided that it was time to sell all of our belongings in Brazil and move to the United States of America in search of a better life and the pursuit of happiness. Unlike many foreigners who are living in this country today, we found a way to land here legally and abide by the laws that at the time were what made this nation such a promising place, where corruption and crime seemed to be minimal as compared to the places we had been exposed to during our lives; a place where everybody had a chance to become somebody through a lot of hard work and a little bit of luck!
Today, a few days after the most crucial election this country has ever been faced with, I ask myself and my family what has happened to us and where did our land of opportunity go?
“Society (in America) is in a state of confusion” for we have given up on the basic elements that made our country so great not so long ago. Our morals, values, principles, beliefs and a sense of a strong family unit have all been washed away and looked down on not just by the liberal mainstream media of this nation, but also by our teachers and politicians. What kind of country is this where it is ok for teachers to indoctrinate young students starting at the age of kindergarten? What kind of people are we that put money and material belongings first and don’t blink an eye to acquire all of the above even if it means that our children have to spend more and more time away from us, their parents, and be subjected to the teachings of a third party that doesn’t necessarily share our own beliefs? Our children are no longer being taught by their parents; unfortunately, they have to rely on teachers, Hollywood and the mainstream media. Our youth doesn’t stand a fair chance to think for themselves or to differentiate right from wrong anymore. Meanwhile, I feel as if I were drowning because it is all happening too fast and right before my eyes and I am completely helpless as I am just another everyday citizen who is not being heard.
As I sit in front of my television set evening after evening, I begin to ponder if Americans have lost touch with reality by the way they, in essence, “worship” Barack Obama. Please, I beg the liberals out there, to enlighten the rest of us on why you voted for this man? Is it the “hope and change” that he promises, or is it all the “experience” he brings to the ticket? Further more, is it his values (i.e. supporting partial birth and late term abortion) or is it his shady associations with people such as Bill Ayers and Jeremiah Wright (just to name a few)? Is it the fact that he wants to help the poor by taking from the rich? Tell me, I want to know what it is about him that makes people get a "tingling feeling up their leg" because I have read so much about the guy and I can't come up with one single reason to make me want to have him as my Commander in Chief. Oh, and the scary part is that none of my friends who have voted for him have been able to give me a good reason, either. People want change, I get that, but they don't really realize the extent of the change we are about to get in this country. The most unfortunate part of this election is that the “change” is coming and it is coming very soon, but I get the feeling that when the “change” actually gets here, Americans will regret it, but like in many South American countries, it will then be too late.
You may call me a radical, you may call me a right wing fanatic, call me whatever you want, but I have lived through the so wanted “change” some voters would like to see in this country and I did not like it one single bit, so much so that I left my homeland. Furthermore, I am married to a Cuban-American whose parents lost their homeland to Communism some 40 years ago and it is because of that experience that I feel able to sniff out a "Saul Alinsky" communist when I hear one speaking. Americans obviously did not do their homework on Mr. "Hope and Change" for if they had, we would not be under this predictment we find ourselves in today. As a country, it is not too late for all of us to start digging deeply into Obama’s background in order to truly understand who he is so that we can make a more educated choice in 2010.
I believe it is time for the Republican party to reform itself and go back to its roots of true conservatism before progressives finish stripping us of our core values: family, country and religion. We are lucky enough to live in a country where we can disagree on these matters in a civil way. We need to take advantage of this moment to embrace our beliefs once again. It chills me to the bone to hear Joe Biden say the government is going to patriotically "take" money from the rich and re-distribute to the rest of us, or Obama talking about “spreading the wealth around”. When I hear such arguments, I know we are not far off from Marxist ideologies. As mentioned previously, I have left my homeland once before because of political unrest driven by socialist/communist forces. I am not about to be forced out of this great country because of some lunatic who wants to make us all equal. Obama represents a danger to this country and what it stands for, so much so that his socialist agenda would get him elected in Europe hands down!
As for me, I have a different thought on “hope and change” and I feel that during the next two years, Americans are going to decide that they do not want to look like what Europe is today (where the governments give and take at their discretion) or what Latin America has become. I am not sure how many people in our country know that a couple of weeks ago, the government in "Argentina proposed seizing all private pensions". If you are wondering why, the answer is simple: To redistribute all of that money to people who actually need it more. Now didn't some leading Democrat say something about pensions belonging to CEOs being the first to go??? Humm, that is the beginning here, isn't it???
Wake up, America! By electing Obama, Americans have just gotten the government that they deserve just like Cubans did when they ushered Fidel Castro in 1959.
God help us all!!!
